── Our Story ──
THE STORY OF THE LOWER
THE LOWER is a speakeasy inspired by two worlds: cabaret and the disco era, brought together by the clandestine spirit of Prohibition-era bars and a seasonal, signature cocktail program.
Beneath Midtown Manhattan, at 29 W 36th Street, the experience begins on the street. A discreet entrance conceals the way in. Down the stairs, a long corridor draws you deeper into the space.
At the end, the curtains appear. And as they open, THE LOWER reveals itself.
Velvet, textures, and warm light evoke the mystery, theatricality, and intimacy of cabaret. Music, mirrors, lights, and disco balls bring the energy of the disco era to life.
At the center of both worlds, a seasonal signature cocktail program reimagines the traditions of Prohibition-era cocktails for New York today.
Midtown’s history is part of the space as well. Its connection to New York’s textile and fashion industries inspired the fabrics, curtains, and textures that surround the room.
As the night unfolds, the atmosphere transforms—sometimes electric and full of movement, other times dark, warm, and intimate. Here, two eras of New York nightlife find a place of their own.
TWO WORLDS. ONE HIDDEN ROOM.
CABARET BELOW. DISCO ABOVE.
Some places are meant to be discovered. Speak softly. Sip slowly.
